Rust Removal and Prevention
Protecting the Integrity of Your Metal Structures.
Just as structures and objects crafted out of wood must deal with rot, metal objects face the threat of rust. Legacy Ironworx Welding Services
specializes in both rust removal and prevention to increase the longevity of your metal products or structures. We fabricate all of our projects with corrosion mitigation in mind, and use industry-leading techniques to remove the presence of build-up.
UNDERSTANDING WHY RUST OCCURS.
Rust is also known as iron oxide. This means that the presence of iron is necessary for rusting to occur. Iron reacts with oxygen while moisture is present, which inevitably leads to corrosion. Over time, the entirety of the metal will oxidize and turn into rust entirely. Since we understand what exactly causes rust to occur, we can take steps to mitigate these interactions. Legacy Ironworx Welding Services
builds all of its metal projects with the rusting process and the threat it poses at the forefront of our minds.
HOW DO YOU REMOVE RUST?
If you catch rust early, it's entirely possible to remove that layer of corrosion. It effectively sits as an upper layer atop the object or structure. We can professionally remove rust using phosphoric or hydrochloric acid to dissolve the layer of rust, leaving only the metal itself intact as a result.
HOW DO YOU PREVENT RUST?
Welders and fabricators can prep projects ahead of time to ward off rusting. The main process for doing this is called galvanization, which entails coating the iron with zinc so that oxygen and water cannot interact with the layer beneath. Painting your metal objects can also ward of rust in a similar fashion.
